This picture is minutes after the pour , so it not the final look. These paintings usually flow for about and hour or 2 depending on how deep the paint it is. As is often the case, this just eveolved from an initial idea, similar to another piece I did, but this time the river was going to be black or white or grey or NOT blue. Well somewhere along the way I decided to form an eyeball. The entire painting is poured and tilted, to achieve the composition you see. Not sure what the final will look like, but I will post it as well. I am going to continue to do some more black and whites, experimenting with velocity of paint, etc....in the very near future, creating a new collection "Black and White Pours". (I will probably make prints of this available, stay tuned for that.) Update: Sunday april 12. This painting went south fast! Bad news: I didn't Gesso the wood enough, and it dried the paint and cracked it. Good news : It looks kinda cool and the eye itself , ws very thick, and did not crack (yet!). As an effort to preserve this state, I have poured clear epoxy over the painting. Hopefully this will stabilize the current state. I will post the pre-epoxy pictures and keep you updated! Will it go into the fireplace or onto the wall ? Not sure at this time.... Update 2: After leaving the epoxy all day, it looked good at first and then ended up browning in some locations. I guess the gases from the wood leaked into the epoxy as well and caused staining. Unacceptable. Verdict : Fireplace.... I am not happy with my initial pictures, so no prints from that. But I will try to recreate the magic on a new piece. Decided to go with something new.... Pour over original Eye of the Storm painting. (I actually don't like wasting, so I don't (usually) burn in a fireplace - just a metaphor.) The result is a venomous snake, and yet the title remains relevant.

Art to me, is just a subset of the rest of life. A balancing act between working hard and challenging yourself and having fun with the outcomes. Art usually reveals the inner workings of the artist. For me I have quite a wide range of interests and subject matter that I want to “cover”. I like experimenting with mediums, and even pushing the boundaries a bit. But I also like to go back to basics and compare myself to other classics, to gauge my abilities. I LOVE art, because of the mysterious way it moves us and evokes all sorts of emotions. I love trying to find that magical element that turns an abstract into something we like. Why do we like it? Why do we like those colours? Why do our tastes differ? Solving and manipulating these dilemma's is part of the fun. What makes a great painting of nature. I think the answer to these questions is elusive and changes with time. My tastes in art have refined since I have become an artist, and started to ask questions... My art represents my interests. So my subjects are the "usual ones", but maybe with a focus on nature, sports, and movement. This is evolving (with my push into abstracts), and I am not sure where it will lead, but that is the fun part…. I hope the viewers enjoy and maybe even support my efforts. Thank you for viewing.
