ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In this, one of my latest paintings, I am most concerned with the unification of color, composition, gesture, mark-making and energetic brushstrokes. Much of my inspiration comes from an eye towards the past, thinking of mainly the American abstract painters working in the mid 20th century and the pre world-war II German painters, as well abstracting the idea of architecture as art itself. Over years of painting, I find myself going through periods where certain colors continue to show up throughout the recent work. Lately it has been mainly orange and blues (and always black). This painting on brown paper is a great example of this.
