ABOUT THE ARTWORK

'Arrival' is the primary image used for the cover for ‘Metallic Spheres In Colour’ a new remix/reimagining of the original ‘Metallic Spheres’ album, which was initially released in 2010. This new version of the ambient classic has been masterminded by Alex Paterson, founder of The Orb, alongside writing partner and current member of The Orb, Michael Rendall, along with producer Youth. The Metallic Spheres album project between the Orb and David Gilmour brought together two of my all-time favourite masters of music to create an epic landmark psychedelic soundscape. As a music lover of The Orb and Pink Floyd, it was a dream come true. I was inspired to create visuals based on the paradox of traveling without movement, inwards like a Shaman shifting through altered states deep into the vast imagination of inner space. The Metallic spheres themselves had to look baroque, fusing elements that cast them androgynous. I straddled the styling to create objects that appeared both ancient and futuristic. They had to look mysterious and alive, like sentient technology traveling to meet the listener to pass on messages from another dimension.

Though often blurred, the line between design and art is a thin, sacred space where brilliant work is brought to life. For Simon Ghahary, this terrain became where he would create his most revered pieces, ushering in an audience that praises both form and function. His love for the psychedelic, Science Fiction, and the esoteric is undeniable in his body of work. Ghahary creates dynamic conditions out of what he has uniquely digested from the world around him, from the intricacies of sound to the wonder-filled shapes and colors of nature. At just 13, Ghahary sketched numerous Grateful Dead cassette covers for a devout fan's private collection, an immersion into the psychedelic culture of the 60's. Like most artists looking to make a living, Ghahary took to design as his primary form of work. Though he was producing for major brands, he stayed entirely true to his values as an artist. His work, though beautiful, was intended to seamlessly marry excellent design and function for the user, an aesthetic built not only about the combination of performance and design but also about space an object can create when not in use. Influenced by the electronic music scene "acid house" and the revolutionary artistic movements of the '60s and '70s, Ghahary spent many years in the music industry, designing unconventional speakers and curvaceous sound systems (he created the sculptural, elegant forms of the entire seminal Pod loudspeaker range) and curating bands, founding the iconic electronic music label, Blue Room Released. During this time, he developed artwork for notable musicians such as David Gilmour from Pink Floyd and the epic electronic band The Orb. While experimenting with sound systems that combined sculptural art Today, sound remains a cornerstone in Ghahary's work. His "From the Void" series of art straddles science and the supernatural as it visually explores the intersection of movement, light, colors, and space. Each digitally composed piece is a vibrantly pigmented explosion of synaesthesia realized. Ghahary's work, on the whole, is saturated with feeling, allowing the viewer to engage with symbolism and the magic of meaning while playing with the balance of chaos and harmony. Born in Brighton, England, Ghahary's roots and travels around the world have informed his innovative work.
