ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The work of art is an explicit description of the nature of the gradual fade of the African culture ever since the colonial masters departed. It is visible in the body of the lady as she disintegrates to thin air .She is personified as the African culture in this painting as she is completely dressed in a cultural attire. In the background are statements written in Egyptian hieroglyphics Statement from Mahatma Ghandi which says " A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the souls of it's people" which means culture is more of the mind than the body or physicality. Also a statement by Johan Huizinga in hieroglyphs stating that "If we are to preserve culture then we must continue to create it.
