About The Artwork
When I read Betty Friedan’s Feminine Mystique I learned alot about my mother’s generation. I named this painting for the book because I felt the woman seemed to typify the sentiment expressed in the book. It looked as if she was trapped in conventions, her striped dress imprisoning her, and her hand gripping her daughter’s wrist. This is my second use of tape to stripe surfaces and really enjoyed the abstraction created using this technique.

She received a BA with a fine art major from Macalester College and an MFA in painting and drawing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
