ABOUT THE ARTWORK
During my 2018/2019 year in the Bay of Islands (New Zealand) we often visited the famous, picturesque railway station at Kawakawa. One day we had a look at its small scrap iron yard and found a tub full of the most impressive, rusty giant screws. These I studied in detail to then transform into a small series of abstract mixed media paintings built up using layers of acrylic and guache paint as well as gloss medium and a special negative painting technique. I just love the wonderful colours rust can be. This subject will become a very important issue in a future on a planet shaped increasingly by the silent witnesses of thousands of years of human inventiveness. This painting comes unframed and is ready to hang as it is. On request I can have the painting placed in a shadow gap frame before shipping.
