Born and raised in Armenia, Karine Hovhannisyan has always had a strong passion for art. From drawing from a young age, to coming to America and pursuing her dream of becoming an artist, she has shown great talent and promise from the start. Karine initially pursued an education in the design field, by graduating from a design university in Armenia. The skills and knowledge she has obtained pertaining to design is reflected in her current art, with bold and distinctive designs in her art pieces. Making her way into the west coast, Karine arrived in California in 2005, where she raised her children. At this time did Karine realize her love for art. But this dream had been put on hold, as her motherly duties occupied her. Years of emotions and talent built up soon led to Karine making her breakthrough as an artist, with the support of family and friends, did she make her small, but invoking steps towards her new career. As time went on, Karine only continued to build her knowledge and skill as an artist, with her sources of knowledge and empowerment being the emotions of passion and attachment for fine arts. Karine started with the basic and bare materials most up-and-coming artists used. With utensils like brushes and pastels, Karine eventually came across the palette knife. Little did she know this would become her signature tool and motif in her paintings. She fell in love with the volume and thickness this technique created. With her admiration for bright and vibrant colors, palette knives allowed her to achieve this depiction. This undoubtedly changed Karine’s style in art forever. As you can see the pattern and recurrence of thick and short strokes of colors forming the subject in her paintings. Leaving the observer wanting to examine her works even further. With all this said, art has undeniable and ultimately taken over Karine’s life. With working nonstop all day and night, she puts her emotions and passion into her artwork. Each of her pieces carry their own story and life, which is reflected in her finished products. Karine proudly articulates her love for art and how she truly believes that she cannot live without artistry.
