ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is my depiction of Fish Lake, located in Central Utah. Fish Lake is one of the larger naturally occurring lakes in the Western USA. It is roughly 7 miles long and about 1.5 miles wide, at the widest spot, with the deepest spot around 220 ft. The lake is one of 3 lakes you can fish for the mighty lake trout (Mackinaw) in Utah. Fish Lake National Forest, Where Fish Lake is located, is teaming with many species of wildlife. This piece depicts 3 elk on top of a lake trout. Fish Lake National Forest is also home to Pando, a very old organism. "When the Pando clone was discovered, scientists named it with a Latin word that means ?I spread.? Pando is an aspen clone that originated from a single seed and spreads by sending up new shoots from the expanding root system. Pando is believed to be the largest, most dense organism ever found at nearly 13 million pounds. The clone spreads over 106 acres, consisting of over 40,000 individual trees. The exact age of the clone and its root system is difficult to calculate, but it is estimated to have started at the end of the last ice age. Some of the trees are over 130 years old. It was first recognized by researchers in the 1970s and more recently proven by geneticists. Its massive size, weight, and prehistoric age have caused worldwide fame." - United States Department of Agriculture. This piece was painted on 18x24 inch stretch canvas with acrylic paint. Elko Nevada based artist, Brady Nielson, grew up in Utah and began painting and drawing at a young age. He continued improving his artistic talents through high school but put them on hold when he entered college. Over the next decade he worked toward degrees and certificates in several fields including geology, geographic information systems, and mining engineering while taking a couple of art classes along the way. During his time as a student he married and had 3 beautiful children, with another addition arriving just recently. A couple of months before landing his first job as an engineer, his unknowing wife laughed when she caught him binge-watching Bob Ross episodes, as it was the last thing she expected this scientifically-minded, outdoor enthusiast to be interested in. A few months later he started painting again and his wife began to understand his interest in Bob Ross and art as she watched him unveil this hidden talent! He has now been painting professionally for 2 years and enjoys inspiring others with his works of art. He has won several art competitions and awards, as well as multiple prizes including Grand Champion at the 2019 Elko County Fair. He also shows his work at Clearly Nevada, a new local art gallery here in Elko City.
