I have been painting fish, and the ocean for many years, but I mostly work in oils because the slow drying time allows me flexibility to move the paint, and the fish around the canvas. But, I painted this one in Acrylics, and it was quite a challenge keeping the painting moving while the paint was drying in front of my eyes. So there is lots of energy, and movement in this fleeting painting. I also reduced my colour palette to simply Phthalo Blue, Black and White to avoid getting carried away with too many colour temptations. My main concern with my fish paintings is to capture the energy and movement of the fish, and to avoid being bogged down painting realistic, perfect fish. In this case, painting in fast drying acrylics certainly helped, and forced that to happen. Mission accomplished.

I paint, because I love to paint. I allow myself the freedom to paint any subject, in any form. I refuse to be restricted by a certain style, or theme, instead I let inspiration, and the moment lead the way. From drawing dinosaurs, cars and designing football jersey's as a small child, to crazy abstract paint splashes as a big child, Art has always been a part of my life. I studied the traditional masters, and practised their techniques in my early years, but have since broadened my strokes to have the confidence to paint in whatever style inspires me in that moment. I cannot, and will not paint the same style over and over again, there is way too much fun to be had exploring all styles. Art for Art sake! I am passionate about Art, and I hope that is evident in my work. I have so much more to paint, and it feels like so little time to paint it. I cannot wait to see where my inspiration takes me next.
