ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I enjoy painting Deep Water Fish as they seem to be from another world and dimension. One may see other animals in Armor but not many fish and not in Terecotta Warriors Armor. This work created itself through my vision of the scales, which are basically a fishes Armor and my latest work of The Seeker Series where I created a work where he is fighting a Terrecotta Warrior on the Great Wall of China. An interesting exercise was to transpose the type of armor onto the fishes scales and add a stylized version of chain mail.

I was born in Devonport, New Zealand and grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. Now we live in Santa Ana, Costa Rica with my wife, Artist Natalia Wallwork. My influences are from Ancient and Tribal Art, particularly Mayan Art but I'm also influenced by the great Surrealist artist, Salvador Dali. The underlying concept of my art though is the importance of our connection with the natural world, therefore a lot of my subject matter are the Birds, Animals and Fish of our planet. I sign my artworks 'Hilton', my middle name after my great grandmother, Hanna Hilton.
