Helen Chambers is an abstract painter from London. After graduating from Winchester School of Art in 1995, Helen has worked as a commercial artist creating print patterns for the fashion market for over 25 years. In recent years her passion for creating artwork has taken the form of painting. Helen paints mostly using acrylic. With a natural instinct for colour she explores the relationship between saturated and desaturated colour and the contrast between light and dark. She works intuitively from memory and mood taking inspiration from landscapes, seascapes and flora. ‘The contrast between light and dark and colour plays a key role in my work. Colour has the power to change mood as well as a way to express mood. There is a particular richness to the colour of paint that can’t be captured in a photograph or print quite the same. In a world where so much is made by machines, having a handmade item in the home can stand out and bring contrast to a room. Contrast is also what creates interest both in art and in life..’
