ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This artwork was inspired by hyperbole and euphemism. Mark making is inspired by Shodo Calligraphy. The imagery is inspired by an ad from the early 1960's and the oddity of the language in that ad. The ad was originally about a small tent "for backyard fun" and I thought that was hilarious and tragic, for so many reasons. When this was combined with the other imagery, for me it became about asymmetrical ideas that differentiate men and women in a relationship. So in short, its really about differences in perceived preferences between individuals, and the hilarious awkwardness of it all. The mark making overt, much like a poorly conceived comment in a conversation. Definitely something to have an award conversation about.
