About The Artwork

When the tide is out, the estuary is far more interesting visually than full tide, when all the water channels and mud banks are covered with water that's more or less all the same colour. I covered parts of the flax leaves with masking fluid so that the sky could be painted in with a single wash, and I didn't have to cut in around the sharp leaves. I KNOW the sky is lighter than the leaves, and I could just paint over sky with leaf colour, but my mind doesn't seem to work that way. So having masked the area that didn't need to be masked, I didn't mask the area that really needed it - the parts of the flax leaves that are surrounded by dark leaves of a bush. So I ended up using my credit card to mask the flax leaves while I spotted the leaves of the bush around them. More than one way to skin a cat, I guess. Though what would you do with a skinned cat?
