ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is part of a series of works I decided to do on the theme of water. I live on the Cote d'Azur where there is this amazing light. It's extremely hot in the summer and it's really necessary to be near water. The beach, the river and the swimming pool are all quite different environments and very different palettes of colours. It's thrilling to plunge into this specific range of colours and the interplay between them. Exactly like David Hockney's gorgeous painting "Pool with Two Figures" which was painted not far away, near Saint Tropez in 1972. I love the expanse of mesmerizing turquoises of the pool. It was really hard to paint as I kept losing myself in the designs and colour tones but yet it looks abstract. I love the dark green parasol pines in the background taking us towards the coast and the sea. This view reminds me of those beautiful Belle Epoque posters of the Cote d'Azur when there were a lot less cars and the coast wasn't over constructed.

Born in 1969 in Singapore. I grew up in Devon in the South West of England. Since 1998 I've been living in the Alpes Maritimes in France where I do art projects with classes in schools and run art classes in my studio. I also take part in art exhibitions and cultural events in the region. Through my work in schools I have done a lot of explorations in art techniques, especially 3D and sculpture, a lot of papier mâché !! We have made some amazing things. This has led me to explore other materials in my own work. I regularly do commissions too
