About The Artwork

This artwork represents a glimpse of a stony seashore, at the Black Sea. After a heavy storm, the waves brought to the shore a piece of wood resembling to a reminiscence of a bull's skull. Someone placed it on top of a limestone, making it look somehow majestic surrounded by stones, and gazing at the sea. In my painting I tried to reproduce the subtlety and richness of nuances of grey, contrasting with the sunny maizes of limestone, wood and sand. I also tried to catch the atmosphere of calm, harmony and steadiness emanating from that sight. In order to suggest the dense structure of stones, I painted this artwork with a palette knife.

Hello, My name is Gabriela Anitei, I’m 64 years old, born and living in Bucharest, Romania. I am a professional painter, graduated of The Fine Arts Academy in Bucharest in 1984. From that moment on I started to participate to various exhibitions, workshops, and periodically I presented my works in one man show exhibitions in my country. I am also professor, teaching children painting, drawing and art history notions. I create paintings and graphics in my late father’s studio, this being the place in which I have learned and developed the passion for colors, for the artistic world and where I have learned how to become a professional painter, under the attentive guidance of my father. I live modestly, but somehow in the sense defined by the journalist and poet Christopher Morley. Quote: 'There is only one success: to be able to spend your life in your own way.' So yes,I spend my free time trying to load my soul and my studio with all the richness of images, feelings and ideas that I can steal from this wonderful Nature that STILL surrounds us. In my artistic world I read a lot, I listen a lot more to various kinds of music, but mostly classical, especially when I’m working. Thus, my thoughts and feelings which emerge during these occupations, are the ones to be found explicit or just suggested in my works. Also, the pleasure experienced every time I am in the midst of Nature, far from the crowds and urban noises, is completed by the pleasure - even the need – of photographing everything that impresses me and leads me towards meditation. So that, when I return to my studio I surprisingly find myself painting and reproducing more my state of mind and feelings experienced before the subject, then the subject itself.
