ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Frank's Farm #8 is the eighth installment in a series dedicated to a beloved neighbor who owned and managed a centennial farm next to our camp in northern Michigan. Frank was a tough nut. A hardy Dutch Michigander who farmed the same land that his parents did in the 1800's. The climate is tough, cold, and dark, with sandy soil that is temperamental and hard to cultivate. Yet, Frank's people managed to successfully raise cattle, corn, and orchards, hunted the wooded expanses and relied on no one but themselves and God. They were staunch Roman Catholics and Frank was always sending us off with a "Peace Be With You" after we'd leave each season. Frank is now with his Lord. I imagine him still hauling ass on a John Deere tractor somewhere up in the heavens. Frank life was a studied lesson on how to remain engaged in life and be productive. Farming and eighteen hour days are not for everyone but he worked well into his 90's and was never idle. I suppose he was just wired that way. I plan to paint two last pieces in this series that I started back in 2017. Peace Be With Your Spirit, Frank!

I’m a self-taught artist and paint-slinger. I work in acrylic, watercolor, ink, and oil on paper and canvas. In 2020, my primary studio moved to Traverse City, Michigan. We simply needed to slow down and focus on living more deliberately. As a blessed wife and mom to four wonderful kiddos, I never lack for inspiration. My work continues to morph and evolve and I rarely stay in one original style for too long. An occupational hazard for certain— But, life is too short to get stuck and stay there.
