Back in Brisbane again having spent some time in Tuscany recently. My works are all about connecting with the space in which I live. Many of the works centre around the view and location of my home in central Brisbane. Alongside these works are the odd splash of recent visits to Yeppoon on the coast and my love of the sea. Last year I painted a series of works with a limited colour palette to emphasise the subject matter without distraction. The results are often more dramatic than works in full colour. Once again, I returned to my love of nature and, in particular, the ruggedness and beauty of snow-covered mountains. I have also recently pursued a connection with the sea. My works are an attempt to recreate the feeling of nature in a realistic manner. My use of palette knife alongside brushwork allows me to be very expressive but at the same time not caught up in excessive details. The transition from Oils to Acrylics has allowed me to pursue a slightly different approach but with a similar outcome. Hopefully, when the viewer looks at my paintings they will consider a response that allows contemplation of our place in the world and the interaction we have with the natural world.
