ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is inspired by garden memories, a cat playing the sunlight, insects and butterflies flitting around, the bushes heaving with blossoms. The colours of nature are more varied and vivid than our imagination, the playing of lights and shadows and the changing shapes from day to day. Cats are always a muse, the companion and the silent observer. They are mischievous yet at the same time graceful and beautiful to watch. I love the way that layering the base ground of acrylics with oils and then oil mixed with varnish washes create veils of colour, revealing shadows, tips of colours and contrasts.
