ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Lapo Elkann for his Garage Italia Milan, chose one of the most evocative buildings in Milan. This ancient gas station with the very wide canopies that defy the force of gravity has always fascinated me. It reminds me of Hopper, his long shadows and his stillness ... his ability to convey that American atmosphere of bars, motels, streets and urban solitudes. Finally yesterday I decided and on foot ... (I had forgotten my chair) I made the sketch and then on the ground I washed in the sun in the traffic ... with frantic slalom cars for the 2019 Christmas Grand Prix. The good architect Mario Bacciocchi, worked for Eni at the time of Enrico Mattei and attended the Milan Polytechnic when he was principal (as well as prof.) Portaluppi. Will it be a coincidence that after having visited Villa Necchi (del Portaluppi precisely) last week, I felt like painting this old gas station?
