Doghair brush No.4 My work focuses on human interactions and nature. The process explores found objects, chance and autoresponse. The tools are made of twigs, found animal hair, animal bones, seed heads and feathers. Each tool's construction produces a means that follows a historical reference process. Handle, twine, brush, each element brings its personality to the instrument. I am creating unique markings from each tool made. The process creates a background story to the tool of how it came to be. My brushes and tools echo the personal stories I research, giving rise to expressive mark-making in the artwork. The handcrafted tools are pivotal to the mark-making process. The process of constructing the paint plays crucial importance concerning the development and success of the finished artwork. Research into historical paint recipes and intuition generates an ununiformed artwork.
