Varnish: Matte finish with UV Protection This painting is part of a little series called "Maskenfreiheit" = The freedom found behind a mask I have started painting them during the lockdown period 2020 and finished this year, 2022, by adding from time to time colors = emotions. 2020 was the beginning of the pandemics and a weird, sad year. Through color I have tried to bring all the beauty we had inside to the surface and make the best from all these feelings new to us all. Maskenfreiheit is a special word the German language has for the happiness customs like putting on masks and disguises during the carnival bring. These paintings represent metaphorical masks, masks many of us wear everyday when we hide our true feelings acting in certain ways and often are afraid to remove. I think we can all relate to this, I have given my heads color representing all those emotions we hide behind a physical or metaphorical mask. We can put off our mask when we feel emotionally safe to do so. But a world in which every single one of us can express him or herself completely free is unimaginable and probably also undesirable.
