Galactic Flight Print

This was conceived as I began the process of returning to myself after a long and traumatic marriage. I had lost myself trying to manage the unmanageable, and creating this painting became a signal from my deepest self that it was time to let go. I went out to Guiry's ColorSource to refresh my supply of oil paints, which had languished for a number of years. The dark tree mimics tortured twists and turns of the past, the celebration of love in its embrace and the torment of losing that love. Birds emerging from a galaxy in deep space represent movement toward healing within community. Layers of light penetrating from behind reminded me that there is hope. I left behind much more than I ever expected. Four years later, I finished the painting, as the journey has led me back to myself. That is worth more than what was lost.
