About The Artwork
With inspiration from "My Octopus Teacher," my Sea Gems series expands beyond jellyfish. "Genius" is my first octopus and first fused glass/painting mixed media creation. The title pays homage to the extreme intelligence and creativity of octopuses. I can't help but be elated with the way the fused glass becomes otherworldly suction cups and a knowing eye. "Genius" has a wide range of surfaces. The cradled panel's woodgrain shows through the shimmering turquoise ocean. The brilliant warm tones of the octopus have a slight sheen from the oil paint. The fused glass suction cups are handmade glass blobs full of kelp blue-green bubbles. Finally, the eye is also handmade by yours truly. It is fused glass with dichroic detailing that glimmers with mischief and knowing. "Genius" is wired and simple to hang with a single nail. All edges are painted. No framing needed.
