ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The background texture recalls the spelling of Statte and the neighboring industrial area of Taranto. From three emblematic figures emerge from this flat surface: the writer and traveler nineteenth-century Janet Ross, who stayed in Statte in the nineteenth century, while the figures evanescent of a father and son remind us of the sufferings suffered by the population as a result of the pollution caused by the steel industry. The wording "Leucos Aspis" refers to the Leucaspids, a Greek armed phalanx that encamped in the Gravina.
