ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Glorious Mandarins is part of a series My memory My origin My inspiration. I use blue and white porcelain as the main object of each painting combined with other fruits and objects such as flowers, lemons, mandarins and pomegranates. This represents my inspiration and interest in culture, colour and symbolism. Thai fabrics are incorporated into the setting as a representation of my origin in the picture. The intention of this body of work is to create beauty through the use of colour and composition that provoke thoughts, cultures, philosophies and personal history.

"My work explores the beauty of still life from objects and things around my life. I am inspired by the classical still life paintings especially from the Dutch and Flemish masters. My work often incorporates symbolic objects depicting the beauty of stillness, memory and transience. My concept is to create “Beauty” through the use of colour and composition that provokes thoughts on cultures, philosophies, place and time. Much of my work uses balanced composition with a sense of tranquillity. I am also inspired by the beauty of nature and flowers are one of my favourite subjects to paint. My painting style is realism and I paint predominantly in oil using traditional technique."
