The “Glow of the Kowhai” is a meditation on the atmospheric light seen and felt in nature. The image is inspired by the beautiful warm tones found in the Kowhai flower, a native species of Aotearoa/New Zealand. It is a sensory response connecting to the environment. I build layers of pigments, combining transparent and opaque medium to create an impression of ethereal light. Please note the image was shot in a highly lit studio to capture a whole unreflective image. Due to the inclusion of resin the colours can shift and change depending on the amount of light directed onto the work. The changeability is part of the artwork's intent, reflecting the shifts of colour and light in nature. This painting is framed in a clear varnish natural wood floater frame. The frame is a box frame where the painting “floats” inside the frame. The frame complements this painting beautifully. The framed size is 31.5”x42”, with a depth of 2.5” This is an original, one-of-a-kind painting on 1.5" thick gallery wrapped canvas done in a combination of pigments, dyes and resin.

“to be dazzled — to cast aside the weight of facts and maybe even to float a little above this difficult world. I want to believe I am looking into the white fire of a great mystery. I want to believe that the imperfections are nothing — that the light is everything –“ ― Mary Oliver
