About The Artwork

In addressing the future we want now. I have chosen the theme of gratitude, this is a theme that resonate with all hearts and it is also a theme that comes into mind in solace. As an artist I see the future we want now as a work in progress which I believe didn't fall short of the real essence of art. The real essence of art is to appreciate and speak about the things around us. And through time past we have seen art sensitizing issues as well as glorifying the world we live in. And as covid-19 shown us, there are things beyond our control and so many things around us that we should so much cherish above all odds, if we choose to remain passionate and creative; smiley and happy, and above all, grateful. I love using the figurative form of art in speaking about the things around me while initiating change; with regards to this theme, I will be presenting a figurative art of man and nature, highlighting sunflower as a symbol of adoration, loyalty and faith of a brighter future to come, methaphored with a human body with tilted look gazing onto the sky for the new embrace of a well deserving feeling- gratitude. In the painting, oil on canvas my artistic piece highlights the economical and financial struggle amidst our faced current pandemic, alarmed by different deeply rooted odds, using bars of different height as representation. The thematic color being yellow-orange which is used to signify endurance and strength compliment itselfs around shades of blues to soften the overall feel of the painting.

Akanji is a visual artist, based in Lagos, Nigeria. A profilic painter with versatile style. He has participated in group exhibitions, competitions and workshops. His works engage emotions around social and cultural narratives of his immediate environment experimenting on forms, a fundamental element of art, an attempt on realism with both impressionistic and expressionistic influences. His new body of works explore imagery in layered, seemless aesthetic cow patterns inspired by cow skin. This new body of works is brought to life from years of experimentation and practice- the quest to finding an artistic signature style. The new style under the categorization of pop abstractionism is visioned to be developed into wider area of sculptures and installation as its appreciation grows.
