ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Freeman has approached her latest pieces bravely, diving into the darkest and most intimate of human emotions. The intensity of her feelings can be seen both in the subject she paints, and the way she uses the paint. Freeman works on a base of acrylic paint before layering with the distinguished pastel tones of oil paint. Each layer, each colour, each brush on the canvas brings life and nuances to her characters. Freeman’s paintings show passion, defiance and resilience. In 2019 Freeman began travelling somewhere new once a month. In December I took a flight to the small city of southeastern France surrounded by majestic Alps where rivers Darc and Isere meet and that's where I've met you. Rum Freeman

Rum Freeman is an artist based in London. Arriving in the UK in the winter of 2013, she initially studied the Meisner Technique at The Actors’ Temple before finding her freedom working with acrylics, and more recently oil paint. Applying a highly emotional process of creation, Rum approaches the canvas in the same way as if she were working on a role, resulting in a dynamic and incredibly engaging experience for the viewer. You can see an example of her process here: This year Rum began a thriving partnership with leading UK mental health charity SANE, after they reviewed her work as "arresting and thought-provoking, reflecting on a very serious subject". Rum Freeman held their first solo exhibition in a heart of Sloane Square at The Royal Court Theatre. The artist creates expressive , unsettling and dark pieces. Early works haunt audiences with their magnetic fear and discomfort.
