About The Artwork

I was inspired to paint this picture to express and search through the process of losing my precious husband of 35 years. My mother had just passed away and few weeks later he was gone too. My feelings were so overwhelming that I had to find a place to put them so I put them on this canvas. As the brutal pain washed over me, I found that when it subsided that I felt peaceful, with a sense of light surrounding my heart. Like the ocean waves crash on to the beach, the sorrow would crash into me but always followed by that peace that passes understanding. The circling of the darks and light demonstrates the flow of grief and the grace that comforts me. I hope that viewers will feel a sense for hope and healing in this oil painting.

Artist Statement by Toni Reavis A dancing swirling line has the ability to capture and then communicate the energy and sensitivity that produced the strokes on the canvas. Abstract painting is a flexible search for color, placement, form, and relative proportion. I focus on maximizing darks and lights, sweeping curves and meandering squiggles while searching for depth and dimension. I vary the brush strokes, remembering that sensitivity to depth and form are the most important elements in my artwork. My work flows and changes as one stroke inspires the next. Each form is unique and generally unplanned. The content of my work comes from my spiritual and deep emotional experiences, combined with music that inspires me, but my intention is for the viewer to find within the work a personal, emotional reaction to the piece.
