ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Inspired by walks in the Dyke Hills in Oxfordshire and part of a series of works inspired by HENGE21 a multi disciplinary event/installation taking part on 24th September 2021. I have immersed myself in the landscape and challenged how I interpret landscapes visually. This piece is part of a series made over time and comprising of many layers of paint and mark making. Marking the passing of time and the complexity of human presence and memory.

Artist Statement I am interested in exploring the complexities of landscape identity within my practice. The interruptions of how a space is experienced and the need to capture space, a sense of time and how those concepts are constantly evolving and changing as they are experienced in different settings and formats. I feel like I am constantly on the precipice of understanding this instinct to visualise landscapes; connecting time and space within my work. This can only be solved through the exploration of surfaces and how marks can create traces, memories; exploring the need to make connections with the familiar. How the work itself contains a sense of time and how the intuitive ritualistic element of my practice seeks to formulate the familiar. About I am an experienced arts educator. My practice focuses on working with others, sharing skills and facilitating projects for people to express themselves and communicate through the visual arts, specialising in spatial and self-awareness. I use my expressive approaches to deliver learning and self-awareness, as well as teaching to inspire, engage and enthuse others. My practice explores my own perception of spaces and how the complexities of identity, time and memory can be explored through the visual. Recent exhibitions include Inside Out at Cornerstone and Bringing the Outside in at Oxford Botanic Garden; I have also exhibited my work in London and Amsterdam, but most recently focused in creating work that responds to Oxfordshire based sites and spaces.
