ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired by my travels to Southeast Asia, more notably Japan, this piece is a commemoration to traditional woodblock printing and tattooing. The stylistic and compositional elements of Ukiyo-e (japanese impressions) and of Irezumi (traditional body tattoos) are integrated into the work as a homage to the artistry which I had the opportunity to witness whilst on my excursions. Elements of “old school” traditional tattoo flash design is also utilised to tie back to my western identity.
