Linda Coppens is a Belgian abstract painter whose work is grounded in gesture, rhythm, and a physical engagement with paint and surface. Her earlier works often developed through sustained movement and accumulation, allowing energy to build through repetition and density. In recent years, her practice has evolved toward a more restrained approach, placing greater emphasis on timing, interruption, and the deliberate act of stopping. These newer works preserve rawness and immediacy by holding gesture and color in suspension rather than resolving them. Across her practice, Coppens’ paintings share a commitment to expressive presence and the visible trace of decision, exploring how energy and tension can be sustained on the surface without reliance on narrative or representation.
