About the Artist

Ellen Greup

Netherlands

"I balance color and shape". I play with them like a writer plays with sentences and a chef with ingredients”.

My work is a constant search for balance. I need structure, but I am afraid of boring. To find a way in that, I try to simplify the complexity of life through my art. I balance colour and shape. It is a constant game of adding & leaving out, of checking & letting go. The framed shapes give me structure and peace. The colour combinations create energy, sometimes serene energy, sometimes more lively energy. In this way I try to create the perfect harmony.

As a child I was already attracted to the dynamics of colours and surfaces. It is therefore not surprising that I attended the Utrecht School of the Arts and graduated there in 1996. After that I started working as a fashion designer, stylist, designer and trend watcher. In all these disciplines I was also continuously working with colour, shape and composition. The love for this is simply in my DNA.

Nowadays I work full-time as an artist
