Cameron Byron Roberts is an architect, writer and artist. He began his career as an apprentice to Frank Gehry, later holding teaching appointments at Harvard, MIT and RISD. Originally a plein-air painter, he eventually moved to the studio to work abstractly, seeking to create the experience of nature through light, shadow, reflection and implied color. Employing Old Master techniques with modern materials, he works with primitive tools, rough brushes, palette knives and squeegees. Artists who inspire his work include the late works of W. J. M Turner, the color field painters of the 1960’s, Rothko and Frankenthaler, the minimalist paintings of Robert Ryman and Robert Rauschenberg, and the abstract expressionists of the 1980’s, Richter and Keifer.
