ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work is also a production from my time at Paris Paint Nights. The prompt this time, was of course the Eiffel Tower which I was spoiled with every day in my early Paris days. I lived very close to the tower and not a day went by where I did not see the monument daring me to dream bigger and remember how far I have come. I will never forget the first time I was the tower light up in its hourly twinkle dance. I never knew before I moved but every hour after sunset until midnight, the La Tour Eiffel gives a magic twinkling dance of lights. Watching this glow in the eyes of others is also something special. I find it so funny that the Eiffel Tower pokes around buildings as if it is normal amongst the city skyline "Oh hey, nice to see you again, didn't see you there". To be honest, I spent far too much time trying to capture the sunset, mixing and mopping, and smudging until I was happy. Not sure if I subconsciously painted the French flag, but I see it there now. Realiwing the night was ending and I had not even painted my tower, I rushed to scratch the dark umber lines into being. The buildings needed the glow of random Parisien life, colors flecking and interloping, stars in a city sky. Lastly, Le tour needed her ethereal golden glow and her twinkle show captured at just the right moment. There is a structural inaccuracy in this painting, which is a beautiful mistake to make as a new Parisienne. But that's just it, attempting Parisienne.

A historically American woman, aspiring adapting and attempting Parisienne. I left my American capitalist hellscape behind for... an equally challenging environment abroad. Much like explorers of yesterday, equipped with my limited perspective and a fumbly sextant of the spirit for navigation, I try to find my position in our vast cosmos leaving everything I knew behind except a suitcase full of paint, brushes, and ambition.
