ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting explores my impressions, my feelings and internal images of the basic essence, spirit of trees... their roots reaching down underground toward the core, or heart of the earth just as their branches reach upward for oxygen and light toward the sun. Their spirit ever expanding in both directions. When I was quite young, my father made up tales about the little people, our fearful selves, who lived underground. We visited them under the roots of trees, so from early on, trees were protectors. This painting revisited those tales.

My name is Judy Frisk and I'm an artist working in watercolor, acrylics, printmaking and figure drawing. My art background was in figure drawing, printmaking, and black and white pre-digital photography. Over the years I've found creative expression through many other media, including hand-built ceramics, stained glass, illustration and photography for posters and album graphics. I've also worked in computer and multimedia programming, taught computer graphics, and in 1998 formed 2 Worlds Interactive and for 20 years designed highly visual, custom websites for music and the arts. Since retiring, I've returned to traditional art media such as drawing, painting and printmaking. My approach ranges from a somewhat disrupted realism to a looser, more intuitive approach, where I feel my way through the creative process.
