About the Artist

Adebayo Taiwo

Nigeria

Adebayo Taiwo is a contemporary African multidisciplinary artist from Nigeria whose practice explores identity, culture, beauty, tradition, and the evolving experience of African life. Working primarily across painting, drawing, and sculpture, he explores the human figure through expressive mark-making, rich surfaces, and symbolic elements.

His work draws from African aesthetics, cultural traditions, textiles, fashion, and the human figure, creating connections between cultural memory and contemporary experiences. Through his paintings and sculptures, Taiwo explores themes of becoming, resilience, beauty, inheritance, and the relationship between tradition and modernity.

Based in Nigeria, Taiwo continues to expand his practice across different media, allowing each body of work to develop its own visual language while remaining rooted in his exploration of identity, cultural memory, and contemporary African life.
