PLEASE NOTE: This painting is currently on display in a Colorado public art project. It will be available to ship in August 2021. Higher Than the Soul Can Hope is part of my orb series of paintings, inspired by the idea of “ghost lights” or “will-o’-the wisps” that draw the viewer onto a new path. For centuries, travelers at night have seen mysterious orbs of light in the wilderness that flicker and recede just out of reach. Throughout history, these sightings have inspired the imagination, frequently attributed to energy, spirits, or wandering souls. In my work, I explore the will-o’-the-wisps metaphorical meaning, described as a presence that helps lead the way toward achieving a goal or true destiny. I created this abstract painting using archival-grade oil paint, gold and silver leaf, and natural non-toxic solvent on luxuriously thick, inch and a half deep gallery wrapped canvas. The edges are painted, so the piece is ready to hang unframed.

“For me, abstract art can have a powerful organic and spiritual presence.” The art of Cynthia Ligeros incorporates impressionist elements that reveal an inner landscape to the viewer, an image at once familiar and transcendent. She seeks to explore our place in a world that we have created, yet one which also creates us. Her paintings often begin with a single driving emotion. From that, an image develops, inspired by the colors, cycles and feelings of the environment. Sunsets, moonscapes, flowers, the changing seasons — all of these are sources of inspiration, adding richness and layers of complexity to her paintings. Even industrial spaces and structures figure prominently in her work, contrasting the artifice of the cityscape against the limitless beauty of the sky. As she paints, she redefines the spaces around us and how they connect to our lives. Her artwork was recently acquired by Colorado Creative Industries for the newly remodeled Ketchum Arts and Sciences Building at CU Boulder. Her art has appeared at the Denver Mayor’s Residence, Denver International Airport, the Madden Museum, Denver Botanic Gardens, Professional Artist Magazine, FOX News, and galleries from San Francisco to New York City.
