ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Hollow Mountain series was inspired by the scenes I saw while riding the cable car in the mountain. In modern urban life, people are increasingly alienated from nature, and our understanding of it is often stuck in concepts or fast-food-style image browsing. The only time I can have a more complete experience of nature was when I go inside it in person. The valley's midair was filled with fog, as if it was an ambiguous zone between being and nothingness. It was not the same as the Greek experience described by Heidegger, but was is still another implicit expression of the clearing-concealment cycle of nature that operates as "emergence". The hazy landscape was constantly changing and flickering, yet maintaining some kind of constant order. It reminded me that nature is not just a cold background, it is from the same higher source as humans. In this sense, humankind and nature are equal creatures, with more or less traces of the divine. I used less paint and more oil in an effort to preserve the vivid traces of brushwork in this series. At the same time, I adopted a lower purity and simpler color pattern. The rhythmic and ethereal atmosphere of the hollow mountain contains infinite richness, which constantly triggers my instinctive urge to paint. By repeatedly depicting the same theme, I hope to gradually approach the mystery suggested by nature as General Revelation.
