"Home Screen" by Jimmy Hyde is a masterful fusion of classical and contemporary elements that transports the viewer into a hauntingly eerie world. Drawing inspiration from impressionist bar paintings, this artwork bridges the gap between classism and modernity by showcasing the pulsating energy of social gatherings. At the centre of the composition is a single phone on a table, accompanied by four glasses. Through the use of chiaroscuro, the artwork creates dramatic contrasts that lend a sense of movement and realism to the scene. The phone acts as a symbol of human interaction pursuit of connection in social settings and the influence of modern technology. The interplay of light and shadow creates an immersive experience, showcasing meticulous attention to detail that brings textures and nuances to life. The glasses illuminated by the glow of the phones reflect the evolution of human connection influenced by technology. As you contemplate "Home Screen," allow yourself to be transported into a world of introspection that encourages reflection upon the complexities of society, the impact of technology, and the timeless desire for connection. The artwork sparks a range of emotions, serving as a catalyst for questioning our place within this ever-changing world and our role in shaping the future.

Jimmy Hyde (b.1996 Bath UK) lives and works in London. Jimmy is a Self taught painter, whose intricate still life, figurative works and portraiture examines the human experience. Portraying still moments and exploring escapism in the modern world. "Oil painting is the cornerstone of my practise. My process embodies a balance between classical painting and a more fluid, process-based methodology. Within this convergence figures and symbols act as conduits, conveying both intimate emotions and societal reflections through traditional image making." "I paint the phones because they are there. I’m drawn to them because they are beautiful, they are human, they are light, they are dark, they are us, they are them, they are alien, they are nature. Everything is nature, bricks steel, data chips, uranium... all taken from the earth, it all comes from nature, it is human nature, it’s horrible and it’s self destructive, but it is the unavoidable dichotomy of humans and nature, we are one. I suppose that’s why I am drawn to the phones. I also consider them as figurative due to their direct engagement - objects that are caught in a moment between use, they symbolize a lot and I am exited as to wear this body of work will take me."
