About The Artwork

She likes to make makes before the zoom sessions on computer home school. She also likes to paint her face and sometimes turn the camera off. What is this homeschool doing? The use of technology is like a knife; only they tell us to hold it by the sharp bit and cut with the handle. This is part of a series of painting I am doing in collaboration with my children. I spend a lot of time thinking about who they are and how to bring out the best in them. I think that this is a tremendously important job and hugely under valued in our culture. I have them draw or paint onto repaired canvases. And then I work on top. Acrylic on canvas, sealed and varnished on stretched canvas.

Amy Bernays lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Born in London, she graduated with a BA(honors) in Fine Art from Central St Martins College in 2001. Her paintings are landscapes of personal interaction; poems to the love of line. Working with non-linguistic communication such gesture, body language, lingering looks and gossip. Her work is anthropological and personal, ponderings on the great themes of life, love and leisure. AKA Amelia Bernays Pitti (what systemic sexism?)
