This is a unique piece painted on real cactus leaves. The piece may eventually deteriorate, but that becomes part of the meaning of the piece. The image reflects the crossing of the Rio Grand near Eagle Pass, Texas as the Border Patrol are ready to save lives as many asylum seekers are swept away.

I currently practice art in Uvalde, Texas, about an hour west of San Antonio. I have a studio and art gallery in Uvalde and I having been teaching art at the college level for 14 years. I have exhibited in Chicago, Houston, San Antonio, Rhode Island, Corpus Christi, Mexico and Venezuela. Facebook: Abel Ortiz and Art Lab Contemporary Art Space. In 2022, after the Robb Elementary tragedy in my home town, I spearheaded a memorial mural project to memorialize the victims. I painted one of the murals, too.
