This painting is based on my much loved 18 year old cat Chandani. She was a great hunter in her day. I started keeping her in about ten years ago when I learned how destructive domestic cats can be to the populations of animals they hunt. This painting is meant to make us smile and remember how much we love our furry family members. It's also a whimsical look at a real situation. With a little bit of expanded awareness, many of us can make a difference in the health and biodiversity of our planet. This black cat is composed of flowers and creatures that it eats! Look closely and you will find a bluebird, chipmunk and lizards in this composition. At least 87 birds, 45 mammals, and 10 reptiles have been driven to extinction by free roaming domestic and feral cats. Keep these much loved and cuddly indiscriminate killers in and give the little creatures they eat room to roam.

Leslie understands the source of creation driven by passions of the intellect and soul. Art for Leslie is a form of communication, sometimes visceral and sometimes direct. She creates her own techniques and adds new twists to more traditional approaches gyrating between thumbing her nose at tradition and leaning on it. She has been a professional artist for 20 years with a career first launched in Las Vegas NV, leapfrogging through Austin TX and finally landing in Asheville NC. She has worked in many mediums and on many surfaces ranging from traditional canvas and wood panel to the more unusual, including vintage furniture, WWII artillery shells and car doors. Leslie can’t imagine living her life without creating art; she starts dreaming of art before her eyes are even closed. Leslie is inspired by exploring new subjects in her work and mixing science with art. Recent subjects include soundwaves, symbiosis in nature, and binary code messages. These porcelain like paintings are created through a time intensive layering and removal process invented by the artist. In addition to an art-filled life, Leslie has a graduate degree in environmental policy and management and an undergraduate degree in environmental science. Leslie recently stepped down as the creative director of a 40 year-old art company. She enjoys rowing and racing crew and spending time with her five rescued cats and tolerant husband.
