I began this painting by quickly and intuitively drawing the patterns onto this canvas in pencil. Then I added the paint, aiming for equal quantities of each colour. The painting is meant to be lively, fun and full of detail.

I am an Australian interdisciplinary artist living in Düsseldorf, Germany. In 2014 I completed my Master of Visual Art (MVA) at the School of Art & Design, Australian National University, specialising in painting. In my undergraduate degree I studied Fine Art. During my MVA I wrote about Vermeer and Titian. After visiting The Prado I created a performance piece based on Velasquez's 'Las Meninas'. In my studio I try to take an intuitive approach to any ideas and material in front of me. It's helpful to be able to access unconscious material and feelings and to play with the moment. I enjoy the process of observing events in everyday life, especially intercultural exchanges that may highlight my outsider status. Fleeting images from old black and white movies and documentaries on YouTube which resonate are a great source of inspiration and material. .
