ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work displayed at the Shockboxx Intergalactic Open 2022 in Hermosa Beach California from January 15th through February 12th. It is also is one of ten paintings that traveled to the Belgrade Biennale Art Salon & Athens Auction in June 2022! It displayed at the Academy 28 in Belgrade Serbia on June 8th 2022 and at Polytechnic 8 in Athen Greece on June 11th 2022. It is one well traveled rooster! The piece is on a plywood frame that has button fly mens briefs stapled to it. The canvas is then primed with about a half a pint of primer paint. It takes at least a week to “cure” before I can start painting. I like to use a combination of acrylic, latex and other water-based paint medias. My technique makes for rich under-painting and the articles of clothing add a unique backstory to the painting. If you look closely you will see the buttons from the "button-fly" and the elastic waistband. The more you look at the piece the more is revealed. This has been my method of abstract painting since the late 1980's. It is called "I am not ready for this" because I am not a morning person but the title is also an expression that is open to the viewers interpretation too. A short video showing the creation of the piece can be seen at:

Greg Hausler was born in New York but raised in Kansas where he graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. During his time at college, he developed his signature technique of using articles of clothing and other textiles instead of linen canvas for his mixed-media abstract paintings. His non-traditional use of painting media is influenced by Marcel Duchamp and street artists while his painting technique draws inspiration from Jackson Pollock and Claude Monet resulting in a style of work that is uniquely his own.
