Elisabetta Trevisan, inspired by the Renaissance and the Pre-Raphaelites with their infamous depiction of female figures in interior and exterior environments, has created a stunning oeuvre dominated by women with beautiful hair styles and flowing fabrics. Paying attention to detail, her figures are engaged with their surrounding environment and in some cases they even become an integral part of it. Her painstakingly attention to detail is further explored in the depiction of those environments, ranging from flowers, plants, the sea, the sky to interiors. The play between light and shadow further contributes to creating an atmospheric scenery for both the depicted figure and the viewer. What has enabled her to create such pictures - serene and full of vitality at the same time - is the use of tempera and water-soluble pencils. She has provided clear evidence of her talent with those two media, as can be seen by the airy and mythical - in a way - figures she has created. What one should also pay attention to is the still lives she has produced, which either form the subject of a picture on its own right or part of the background, complementing the sensuality of unique beauty of each work.
