Iaali - Friendship in the Suri Tribe Print

An original watercolour painting with gouache accents depicting two children from the Suri Tribe in Ethiopia. I met these two children during a recent trip to the Omo Valley. The past-time of decorating with clay, flowers, seeds and beading has been handed down over the generations and shows their deep connection to their culture and nature. “Iaali” is a Suri word that means friendship. Family and friendship are some of the most important bonds within the Suri community. Hand-painted, completely original watercolour on 100% cotton rag. I love the challenge of painting portraits in watercolour, but I also feel there is a vibrancy and luminosity that is difficult to achieve in other mediums.
