Icon Mother of God Tenderness Print

The icon of the Most Holy Theotokos with the Child is painted in the traditional canonical Old Russian style. It is made according to ancient technologies. The layered egg tempera drawing is done on a primed board using washed chalk and linen and animal glue. This board covering is called "levkas". The linden board is glued together on a special press; on the front side of the board, all knots were picked up and replaced with wooden inserts. On the front side there is a symbolic recess in the board - the “ark”, which is both a frame and a protective barrier to preserve the painting layer. On the reverse side of the board are two oak veneers. The icon uses gold leaf. Upon completion of the painting, the icon is covered with a layer of varnish and a protective layer of varnish. The back side of the board is treated with stain, an antibacterial protective coating. The rhythms that unite the two figures are designed to show the love of mother and child. The overall color of the icon is warm. The predominant color is ocher. The dominant spot is the figure of the Virgin in a maroon robe, painted with red ocher and other colors. These rhythms help you focus on prayer. I like to write icons slowly, focusing on the internal state of the image. Therefore, the work lasted for several years.
