About The Artwork

The work In Harmonia Progressio is the result of Bagas' contemplation on the dynamics between artists from Bandung and Yogyakarta; at least since he began his involvement in the art field. Artists from Bandung and Yogyakarta seem to possess contrasting natures and idealism, almost entrenched in a longstanding misunderstanding. Undeniably, they are separated by distance and different 'roots.' On the flip side, Bagas feels that Bandung and Yogyakarta are not fundamentally different, especially when brought close together – like the sky and the earth. The blue of the sky will always reflect its colors in the ocean, and if the sea roars, so does the sky. The presence of floating intertwined fabric between the sky and the sea represents the connection between Bandung and Yogyakarta. It is impossible to definitively define what "Bandung" and "Yogyakarta" is in the context of visual arts. With various colors and forms of these fabrics, Bagas hopes that artists from Bandung and Yogyakarta can remain true to their individual creations; some may be subtle, and some may be rough. Some may be simple, while others may be extravagant.

A visual art graduate from Indonesia who is passionate in capturing thoughts through surreal and mysterious imagery. Coming from a family with Catholic backgrounds, Bagas distills the essence of what makes us contemplate the existence of a 'higher being', and how, sometimes, put us into disbelief. Bagas is a student at Institut Teknologi Bandung, majoring in Visual Art; especially in contemporary painting practice. Most of Bagas's works consist a glimpse of Catholic imagery, such as icons and symbols depicted in statues or paintings, and be reimagined through his paintings.
