This painting is an interpretation of photographs from photographer Pieter Hugo and it is part of my 'Urban Jungle' series. This series started in 2017 and is ongoing, it opens a dialogue between urban life and nature. Through it, I raise questions about the relationship between our kind and our surroundings, the imposed force or the complicity we have with nature in its general form. 'In the fern forest' depicts a young man seating on a large branch covered in moss in the heart of a deep jungle-like forest. I found the contrast between the young man, his parka and the surroundings interesting. I have also had a long-standing fascination for ferns and jungles which I adore painting. The face of the boy is drawn and not painted with only a few accents of gold to leave traces of mystery. TECHNICAL DETAILS Some parts of the painting have gold liquid metal, acrylic and ink which gives the painting another beautiful dimension under different lighting. The artwork is sold rolled, varnished with satin invisible UV protection and needs to be framed or stretched for display.
